New School Site

Redevelopment plans of the city of Lancaster claimed the property at the corner of Date and Jackman streets which had been home to AVAS since 1949. Being unexpectedly forced to move, and after exploring several options, the school leaders chose to build a new school on land across the street from Lancaster City Hall, two blocks away from the original school site.  Groundbreaking for the new construction was June 15, 2006. Our builder and developer upgraded almost every part of the project including a $50,000 floating wood floor in the gym, granite counters in the library, office, kitchen, and bathrooms, and ceramic tile through the kitchen and bathrooms. Principal Jim Smith presented some of the other needs to our church family and over $9,000 was donated  for furnishings. The proceeds from the October 2007 Golf Tournament supplemented the church gifts to provide supplies needed to finish the project.

Construction is complete. The Grand Opening Ceremony was on Sunday, December 16, and classes began on Fern Avenue January 2008.

AVAS is pleased to continue to be a part of Lancaster’s Old Town Site, and to participate in growth in the area.
